Elizabeth Farnsworth Mears

A seated, full-length portrait in profile of Elizabeth Farnsworth Mears (1830-1907), early Wisconsin poet and author whose work was published under the pen name Nellie Wildwood. She is wearing a long black dress and is seated at a writing table. There is a small piece of folded paper with handwriting on it lying on the table. Boldly printed fabric covers the folding screen behind her. Born in Groton, Massachusetts, Elizabeth Mears lived most of her life in Oshkosh. In her old age she lived in Lake Mills and died there at the home of her daughter, Louise Mears Fargo. |
