John and Elizabeth Mears Family Home

View from street of a two-story wood frame house, with open front porch shaded by trees. There is a plank sidewalk in front and a curved plank walk leading to the front steps. It is identified in a handwritten caption as "Mother's home Oshkosh Wis — Polk St. where she lived from 9 yrs. until she married 1893." "Mother" refers to Louise Mears Fargo, the daughter of (Mary) Elizabeth Farnsworth Mears and John Hall Mears. The Mears' had two other daughters, sculptor Helen Farnsworth Mears and author Mary Mears. Elizabeth Mears was a poet whose work was published under the pen name Nellie Wildwood. Polk Street has been renamed Parkway Avenue. |
