Walter Scott (1911-1983) posing in front of the gnarled trunk of a box elder tree at his home, Hickory Hill House. Scott was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Conservation, and later by the Department of Natural Resources, for many years. From 1946 until his retirement in 1974, he maintained the records of the "big tree program" which listed the largest trees in the state. |
