The Iron Heel
Poster featuring a caricaure in which a mule, wearing a hat with an American flag and Red Cross flag, and branded with "U.S.A.," is standing over three men he has apparently beaten. The mule is also wearing a saddle labeled: "American Industry," to which a machine gun is attached. The three men are labeled: "Pacifist, Hard Times, and Kaiserism;"and the Kaiserism man is a caricature of a German officer. Poster text reads: "THE IRON HEEL VS. THE MAILED FIST, THE PACIFIST, and THE PESSIMIST. INDUSTRY -- THE MULE AS A PATRIOT. American Industry is Loyal -- It is out for the Flag. It subscribed to the Liberty Loan with four feet. You can bleed it almost to death for the Red Cross. Don't make any mistake, Industry is doing its bit. GIVE INDUSTRY A SHOW AS A PATRIOT." |
