Captain Cassin Young

Image of Captain Cassin Young after having received the Medal of Honor. Captain Young received the medal for his actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor, when he was commander of the Vestal. He was later made commanding officer of the flagship San Francisco; he was killed during the Battle of Guadalcanal on November 13, 1942. In his honor, a destroyer was named the USS Cassin Young. Although born in Washington, D.C., Captain Young lived in Milwaukee before his naval service. |
