Book or Pamphlet
Holy Family Hospital, Parlor
Elements of Victorian design and decoration are seen in the main floor parlor. Ribbon and floral wreathing draws attention to the upper walls and high ceiling. A wooden spiral turned-leg table with an ornately patterned and trimmed covering holds a book with a clasp; possibly a Bible. Wooden rocking chairs and side chairs have cane woven seats. A patterned rug partially covers a hardwood floor. Sheer ruffled-edge curtains are tied back just above the window sills. On the far wall, pictures are of Mary with Jesus on the left, and the Good Shepard with his sheep on the right. The diagonal corners of the room indicate its bay-shaped design, which extends from the west side of the building. The parlor was used for visiting patients. Friends were able to visit on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Relatives were not restricted to the regular visiting days or hours. |
