Kreider-Reisner C-4 Challenger with Comet Engine
Left side profile view of a 7-cylinder Comet air-cooled radial piston engine and propeller on a Kreider-Reisner C-4 Challenger aircraft. A design of the Comet Engine Corporation, the engine was manufactured on a Gisholt turret lathe in Madison, Wisconsin, and added to the Challenger line. An American two-seat utility biplane, the Challenger was originally designed by Kreider-Reisner Aircraft Company founded in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1926. In April 1929, the company was purchased by the Fairchild Aircraft Company of Farmingdale, New York that continued production of this aircraft as the Fairchild KR-34. The plane, with registration number X7243, is parked on a landing field. Decal text on the tail reads: "Kreider-Reisner Aircraft Co. Challenger Hagerstown, Maryland, U.S.A." |
