Glander Art Studio, Exterior
Opening its doors to the public in December, 1914, the new Glander Building at 822 Washington Street is home to the Glander Art Studio on the northeast corner of S. 9th and Washington Streets. Its corner entrance is flanked by large showcase windows on either side with small-paned windows above and below them. On the right, several people are walking along the sidewalk in front of neighboring businesses; Henry Bode's 2-story Manitowoc Steam Cleaning and Dying Works at 820 Washington Street, Harry Spiegel's 1-story saloon at 818 Washington Street, and Ray Flint's 1 1/2-story confectionery at 816 Washington Street. A light and streetcar cable are suspended above the street. The "Manitowoc Daily Herald," Dec. 24, 1914, states: "Glander Art Studio Now in New Home — Finest in the State." "The Glander Art Studio is now located in its new home at Ninth and Washington Streets and has one of the most commodious and handsome buildings in the city. The structure is two stories, of brick, the first floor being used as display and sales rooms with the photograph studio and work rooms on the second floor. J.A. Glander, proprietor of the studio, is one of the city's enterprising young business men who has achieved a remarkable and deserved success in his business." |
