Mt. Vernon Playground | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
A view, looking south, at the intersection of West Mt. Vernon Avenue and North 65th Street. In the foreground is a shallow pool where children are playing, some wearing street clothes and others in bathing suits and caps. Other children are standing on the pavement at left; there are older girls or young women at right. Beyond the pool is a tiered fountain set into the wall of a walkway shaded by a pergola. On the far left is a sign which reads: "USA WORK PROGRAM WPA." The large brick building at left is Solomon Juneau High School. On the right a tall smokestack is towering over the greenhouses of Kennedy and Kennedy Florists. The houses in the far background are on West Fairview Avenue.
