Typewritten caption reads: "Briefpost und Paketverteilung auf Sultan Javus Selim." Former German battlecruiser S.M.S. Goeben. The German battlecruiser, S.M.S. Goeben, was trapped in the Bosporus Straits at the beginning of the war. When Turkey entered the conflict the ship was transferred to the Turkish Navy and renamed the Sultan Javus Selim, although she continued to be manned by a German crew. The ship was in operations against the Russians in the Black Sea and the British in the Aegean Sea. |
