Furniture Company Fire
Stereograph of a fire at the Choate-Hollister Furniture Company. A crowd, mostly men, are gathered to watch the effort to extinguish the fire. On the left, men are standing on a partially finished structure to get a better view. The company was headed by Leander Choate and Seymour Hollister, who had a controlling interest in the company by 1895. They never reopened after the fire of 1899. The fire also spread past Jackson Street to the east and destroyed the Star Foundry & Machine Works; Hayward Carriage Company; Charles Repe's Stone Cutting Works; and Gusavus & Hintze Boiler Works. |
