Andreas Hofer was a 19th century Austrian who fought against Napoleonic forces from France and Bavaria who had occupied the Tyrol. He was captured and executed in 1810 by Italian troops loyal to Napoleon. "Welschen" is used as a derogatory term for Italians, or other romance speaking peoples. Caption in German is illegible. |
