Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Madison Public Library building at the south corner of W. Mifflin and N. Fairchild Streets. Rev. Joseph Brown is standing in the left foreground, Library Director Bernard Schwab is behind Rev. Brown. Kermit Frater is standing center foreground, perhaps speaking. Mayor Henry Reynolds is standing foreground center wearing a hat with his back to the camera. Robert Jones (in a hat) and Robert McMullen are standing with their backs to the camera right foreground. Several shovels are stuck in the ground at left, and a camera is sitting on the ground at right. Several spectators are standing on the sidewalk surrounding the site, and a handful of people can be seen observing from the windows of the Madison Gas and Electric building across the street. Leath's Furniture and First Federal Savings Banks are in the background. |
