Dickeyville Grotto
The Dickeyville Grotto is a small shrine made out of stone, mortar, colorful rocks and found objects. The modern door is made of glass and metal. A large stone cross is at the top of the shrine. Two flagpoles made in the same style are standing on the left and right. The American flag on the right had the word "Patriotism" set in mosaic below it. On the left is a flag the word "Religion" below it. The grotto was conceived, designed and built by Father Matthias Wernerus without blueprints. On the right is the Holy Ghost Church. |
