Fachwerk House

Several men and children are standing in an arched doorway at the rear of a small courtyard. On the left, steps lead to the door of a Fachwerk (timberframe) house. Two unidentified well-dressed men are standing on the right. There is a pile of bricks and a grindstone on the right. The house may have been owned by a relative of Milwaukee publisher George Brumder. Brumder, with his wife Henriette and two of their children, traveled from Milwaukee to his hometown of Breuschwickersheim in 1889. At that time a part of the German Empire, Breuschwickersheim is in the department of Bas-Rhin, region of Alsace, France. |
