Two Men in Carriage
Two men are riding in an open carriage pulled by a donkey. Captions written on the front of the photograph describe "A joyous Sunday afternoon at Pine Lake," and "En Route from 'Annex' to Villa Henrietta." One man, identified only as "Goldsmith," is holding a whip, while the other man, likely Herman Otto Brumder, is holding the reins. The carriage is stopped on the shoulder of a road. On the reverse is written: "I think that donkey had too many "High Balls" that day for he wouldn't move. Don't you wish you'd been there. With much love. H.O.B. [Herman Otto Brumder]" In different handwriting is the note: "The 'Annex' was a small tavern with a bar and two tables only. It was part of the Interlaken Hotel on Beaver Lake." |
