Mid-Century Modern Home Back Porch and Yard
External view across lawn towards the backside of a mid-century modern home. The angle shows the split-level design, marked by wood siding and stone support columns. Two men are sitting in the lanai, or open-sided veranda popular in the 1950s and 1960s. There is a birdhouse on a post in the yard and a garden hose is laying across the mowed lawn. The house was built in 1963. The home was built in 1963 and designed by the architect, Paul A. Thomas III, who taught in the Architecture and City and Regional Planning program at Illinois Institute of Technology. Ken Harley was the original owner from 1963 to 1975. |
