The "...boathouse was built on the northern side of the Island in 1905 to house the steam launch used by the family, probably the first power boat ever to cruise these waters." Source: Holt, Constance W. & Holt Jr., Donald R.(1968). "Place Names." This unpublished manuscript is part of Holt Family Albums collection. According to Lucy Holt's great granddaughter Shan Holt in August 2018, "The title 'Launch' may refer to the fact that the boat was a steam launch, or it might mean this was the launch for the summer of that boat, removing it from the boathouse. Depends a bit on whether this photo is taken in May/June, in which case it is probably the 'launch of the launch.'"
