Portrait of Prof. Jerzy Leon Nowinski, a scientist and mathematician who was granted asylum in America in January 1958 from his native Poland. The original text states: "the scientist is considered an expert on thermoelasticity, the field of mathematical theory dealing with stresses and strains on metals and other materials under varying of temperature". He came to the mathematics research center at the University of Wisconsin in June 1958. |
