Monkeys Escape Vilas Zoo

Thirty-eight Rhesus monkeys escaped from the basement of the Vilas zoo monkey house on August 4, 1960. Sixteen were captured right away but it took until December 5 to capture the rest. Vilas Park zookeeper Al Baker is shown up in a tree holding a bottle. "He carries one of the apple-baited traps which were wired to branches. When monkeys reach in bottle to get apple, they do not let go. Thus, the monkey cannot get his paw out of the bottle and is trapped." |
