Axe in Hand

Axe in Hand | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
View toward a man, sitting on the middle bench in the motor boat, holding an axe on his knees. A woman, possibly Anna Holt Wheeler, is sitting on the back bench. Jeannette Holt is holding the boat at the pier. Mr. Garrison, smiling at the camera and kneeling on the pier, is also holding the side of the boat. The company name "Elco" is painted on the boat's motor.

The forested shoreline of Archibald Lake is in the background. The Holt Lumber Company never harvested the old-growth trees along this shoreline.

The back side of the photograph reads: "Wheeler, Garrison."
