Penalty for Those Who Pose as Deaf
Rev. Herbert Drachenberg, right, pastor of the Madison Silent Lutheran Church, 1909 Huxley St., uses sign language to relay a question from members of the Senate Public Welfare committee who are seated at the table, Sen. Raymond Bice (R-LaCrosse) and Sen. Peter Care (R-Janesville) to Robert Pagel, left, a representative of the Wisconsin Assn. of the Deaf. Robert Pagel informed the committee that deaf persons presently are the victims of a "racket." In an effort to stamp out masquerading by peddlers, the committee recommended passage of a bill to stiffen penalties for persons convicted of posing as deaf. |
