Parade Float
View of a group of mostly women riding on a horse-drawn parade float. The letters "OW" and "WC" are written with flowers on the horse blankets. Several women appear to be nurses. One child is sitting on the float. The driver of the float is tipping his hat. A man wearing a military uniform is standing on the float. An electric light is hanging over the street. This float was part of the parade celebrating completion of the asphalt paving of Main Street. |

A preparedness pennant is hanging from the side of the float; however, the pennant is not visible in this photo. Lucy Rumsey Holt was president of the Oconto City Women's Club from 1913-1917. The date of this photo probably is October 20,1915 because there is an adjacent postcard in the album showing the dedication of the new Main Street, Oconto, Wisconsin, October 20, 1915. This celebration was a big deal, with over 7,000 people in attendance. The Oconto band led the parade. At the conclusion of the parade, there was roller skating and dancing on the street.
