Cutting Ice on Namakagon Lake
Slightly elevated view of three men cutting and loading ice into a dump truck on Namakagon Lake. One man is guiding ice blocks through open water to a conveyor belt with a peavey, while another man is operating the conveyor belt. A third man is ready to grab the ice blocks with pinchers to load the ice block into the dump truck. Numerous tools are scattered around including a large circular saw. There is a pick-up truck parked nearby on the ice. The cow palace is in the background. |

Forest Lodge on Lake Namakagon was originally the Northern Wisconsin Lumber Company. In 1902 Crawford Livingston purchased 100 acres of the lake shore property for hunting and vacation purposes. Crawford Livingston’s daughter Mary Livingston Griggs and granddaughter Mary Griggs Burke continued to maintain and expand the property until Mary Burke’s death in 2012 when all 872 acres of Forest Lodge were entirely gifted to the U.S. Forest Service. |
