Portage County Courthouse
Text on front reads: "Portage Co. Courthouse, Stevens Point, Wis." Exterior of the Portage County Courthouse, built in 1868. Stairs lead to the main entrance of the stone building, and a cannon stands on the lawn on the right. A pavilion is on the left and trees surround the building. In the center is the Portage County G.A.R. Memorial. This monument was dedicated on September 2, 1890 to honor the Civil War Union veterans from Portage County. The granite memorial features a sculpture of a Union soldier holding a flag and grasping his sword at the top of a tall obelisk. |
