Chief Skenandoah
Portrait of Chief Elijah Skenandoah, a Turtle Clan chief of the Oneida nation. He moved to Wisconsin from New York in the 1830s, along with a group of Oneida. He also brought the Oneida Tribal Belt, a symbol of commitment between the Six Nations, and seven of the original treaties to which the Oneida were party. Photograph is captioned: "Chief Skenandoah," and penciled notes read "2 5/8" and "TAPE OFF BORDER". |
