New Bridge Takes Kinks Out of Road
View towards two bridges. Article reads: "Highway 59, where it crosses the Rock River between Milton and Edgerton, is the scene of a bridge construction and highway straightening job that shows the difference between the methods of horse and wagon days and today. Sharp turns in the roads were then the accepted thing, and bridges were located where they would be shorter and cost less. Now we want no kinks in the road and place bridges so as to straighten the road, even though it be necessary to make the bridges longer and build greater length of approach. The new bridge on Highway 59 will make the road stright, eliminating a series of kinks like a great letter Z." |
