Brevet Brigadier General Thomas Scott Allen

Engraved lithograph of a waist-up portrait of Brevet Brigadier General Thomas Scott Allen. Allen was a Republican member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from the Iowa 2nd district. During the Civil War, he was a colonel in the 5th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment. At the close of the war he was appointed brevet brigadier general. After the war, he was elected Secretary of State, which role he served from 1866-1870. |
