Reverend A. J. Aneed

Waist-up portrait of Archbishop Anthony Joseph (Anton) Aneed, a Syrian immigrant and Exarch of the Archdiocese of Beirut. Reverend Aneed moved to Milwaukee and became second priest of Saint George’s Syrian Melkite Catholic Church. He received the title of Exarch in Milwaukee in 1918. In addition to his ministry at the Melkite Church, Exarch Aneed published Syrian Christians: A Brief History of the Catholic Church of St. George in Milwaukee, Wisc. and a Sketch of The Eastern Church. He also recorded songs on A.J. Macksoud’s record label in 1925. Later he served a number of Melkite churches around the United States. Photograph includes a handwritten dedication: "To my intimate friend Mr. J.G. Gregory. Sincerely, Rev. A.J. Aneed." |
