Allis-Chalmers Spiral Casing

Spiral casing for a 70,000 horse-power hydraulic turbine to be installed at Niagara Falls being erected at the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company in West Allis. Note the automobile in the lower right corner for scale. The diameter of the casting inlet (near the automobile) is 15 feet, while the overall diameter is 50 feet. The steel plate thickness varies from 7/8 to 1 1/4 inches.
