The synagogue, which is a Madison landmark and which now stands in James Madison Park, was constructed in 1863 by Madison's small Jewish community and designed by August Kutzbock, one of the two architects who designed the third Wisconsin Capitol. Its Romanesque influence provides a context for understanding the eclectic style of evident in the third Capitol. |
