The caption is incorrect. The crates in the photo are clearly marked "Expedition II 1933," but the "City of New York" was one of the ships Byrd used on his first expedition (1928-30). Byrd used the vessels "Jacob Ruppert" and the "Bear of Oakland" for his second expedition (1933-35). |
