Daisy Bates standing in the doorway of the weekly Arkansas State Press, the newspaper founded by Mrs. Bates and her husband, L.C. Bates. As a result of the Bates' leadership in the integration struggle, pressure was placed on Press advertisers. Ultimately, sufficient advertisers withdrew their support, and the Arkansas State Press shut down in 1959. |
