Fair of the Wisconsin Agricultural Society

Panoramic sketch of the first Wisconsin State Fair held in Madison with large tents, fire companies, side-shows, and performances that drew thousands of visitors. The fair, which was held at the grounds that became better known as Camp Randall during the Civil War, was sponsored by the Wisconsin State Horticultural Society, a private organization that continued to sponsor the state fairs until 1897. This illustration appeared in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. |
