Portrait of Knut Larson Gjermo, Company H, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in his Civil War uniform. The following information is in the published Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers: Knud Larson enlisted as a Private on 29 January 1862, and was credited to Leeds Center. He died 18 January 1863 at Nashville, Tennessee, after being wounded at the battle of Stone(s) River, Tennessee. (Gjermo was his Norwegian farm name; a farm name was often added to the patronymic as a surname after they had been in the U.S. for a period of time.) This portrait was labeled circa 1916 by Waldemar Ager (apparently in error) as being Knut Iverson (Vike) of Company F, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. See the Additional Information note below.
