American House

Two men are sitting in a carriage in front of a Madison hotel known as both the Flom Hotel and the American House. The Flom Hotel, built in 1865, was located on the corner of South Hancock and East Main Streets. It should not be confused with the American House hotel located on the Capitol Square on Pinckney Street at the corner of Washington Avenue, which was built in 1838 and burned in 1868. The hotel was owned by the Jefferson family, and the men in the buggy have been identified as Beverly Jefferson, sitting on the left and his brother, John Jefferson, on the right. |
