Wounded Union Civil War Soldier
Image
Oil on linen study of a Union Civil War soldier examining his wound. The study was created as part of the work of the German panorama painters active in Milwaukee during the 1880s. Although unsigned it is probably by F.W. Heine. Once thought to have been intended for a Gettysburg painting, Heine's diaries now suggest it was intended for a panorama of the Atlanta or Missionary Ridge battles.
