The magnificent Newhall House, a hotel that dwarfed the neighboring buildings, opened in 1857. Hölzlhuber completed this sketch for the <i>Neue illustrierte Zeitung</i> in Vienna, which published it January 29, 1883. This was a few weeks after the hotel had completely burned down with a loss of over seventy lives. In the drawing are pedestrians and a horse-drawn carriage. A large American flag flies on top.
DESCRIPTION
The magnificent Newhall House, a hotel that dwarfed the neighboring buildings, opened in 1857. Hölzlhuber completed this sketch for the Neue illustrierte Zeitung in Vienna, which published it January 29, 1883.
