Spaulding House

Image of the drawing room on the east side in the Spaulding house. The room was furnished by Marshall Field and Co. in 1870. East end of the room, showing the piano, which is now in the Methodist Church hall. The original wallpaper is still on the room and the original carpeting, pink roses on a grey background. The furniture is of walnut. Over the mantle on the marble fireplace is an oil portrait of the late D.J. Spaulding, and at its side a smaller picture of his nephew, the late May Price, who was a favorite of the family. The west end of the room has an oil painting of the Mrs. Spaulding on the wall. Misses Mary and Hane Spaulding sold the home in 1949 to E.E. Homstad and Ralph Boehlke. The two sisters moved out in 1943 to an apartment and the house was not lived in for some years. The furnishings are still owned by the Misses Spaulding and Mrs. Sidney Castle, a sister. |
