Gilbert Roe, Madison attorney and partner in the firm La Follette, Harper, Roe, seated in his office in the second floor of the Fairchild Block at 29 East Main Street. In 1894 the partnership dissolved so that La Follette could better pursue his political career, but Roe, Zimmerman, and La Follette all moved to adjoining offices in the Fairchild Block. |

Provenance of the various versions of this image is confused. The print in PH 3514, the Roe collection, indicates it is from the Zimmerman estate. The handwriting on the mount is clearly Zimmerman's. The original negative is part of the collected photographs of Stanley Hanks, although it is almost certain to have been photographed by Zimmerman. |
