The Union House Tavern
The Union House Tavern, known as Schulkamp's Corner Saloon, 2601 East Washington Avenue at Milwaukee Street. A group of men are standing on the porch holding glasses of beer. There is a hand-pump and a pail on the wooden sidewalk running in front of the porch. There is a horse and wagon tied up at the hitching post on the left. A sign for Breckheimer Beer is on the corner of the building above the porch roof. |

The tavern took its name from the Union soldiers who popularized it and gave its name to Union Corners. During the Civil War, the wives of Union soldiers received their allotment checks in a paymasters headquarters on the second floor. It was torn down in September 1954. |
