Expedition Map of Major S.H. Long

Map

In 1823 U.S. Army major Stephen H. Long led an expedition of scientific, trade, and military investigation up the Mississippi River and the Red River of the North and through southern Canada. Lewis Cass, Governor of Michigan Territory, was among the promoters of this expedition. The map reads: "Map of the country embracing the route of the expedition of 1823 commanded by Major S.H. Long."
