Roi-Porlier-Tank Cottage
The Roi-Porlier-Tank Cottage with trees scattered about, and a low, stone wall in the front. The caption accompanying this image reads as follows: "Tank Cottage, at Green Bay, the oldest house in Wisconsin. Joseph Roi, a French voyageur, built the home about 1785 and lived in it for many years. It takes its name from Nels Otto Tank, a Norwegian, who bought the cottage in 1850 and founded a Moravian settlement near Green Bay. The cottage was purchased by the Green Bay Historical society and the South Side Improvement society about 30 years ago and moved to Union Park, where it is visited annually by thousands of people from all parts of Wisconsin." |
