Robert M. La Follette, Jr.
Informal portrait of Senator Robert M. La Follette, Jr., perhaps taken in the library at Maple Bluff Farm. Following his father's death in 1925 Bob Jr. was elected to the Senate. He continued to serve as the leader of the Wisconsin Progressive Party until 1946. At a party convention on March 17 in Portage he advised the declining Progressives to return to the Republican Party. La Follette ran for reelection to the Senate in the Republican primary and lost to Joseph R. McCarthy. |
