Commander A.E. Reymont shaves his face while division surgeon Captain C.P. Archambault looks on. Captain C.P. Archambault, Medical Corps, United States Navy Reserve, III Division surgeon, sits on sandbags holding a pipe in his mouth. He wears fatigues, a camouflage helmet, and glasses. Commander Reymont wears a white t-shirt and pants with a cloth hanging out of the pocket. Behind him is a clothesline with clothing on it. He holds a mirror in one hand and a shaving razor in the other. He has shaving cream on half of his face. The foxhole became quarters for doctors and commanding officers. |

This image is one of many taken of or by Dickey Chapelle, and part of the Dickey Chapelle collection held by the Society. Chapelle was one of the first women foreign correspondents to cover World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and military struggles worldwide, particularly against communism. Her work appeared in "Reader's Digest," "National Geographic," "Look," "Saturday Evening Post." Chapelle was killed in Vietnam in 1965. Her collection includes photographs; biographical material and personal papers, primarily news clippings and a few legal documents; taped interviews; and personal correspondence. |
