First Farmers Alliance

The first Farmers Alliance — also known as the Southern Alliance — is shown in front of the cabin in which their first formal meeting was held in 1877 in Pleasant Valley, Lampasas County, Texas. The cabin was uprooted and exhibited in the Chicago Exhibition of 1893. Later it was chopped up and pieces were passed out to the Populist partisans. Caption reads: "The Last Meeting of the First Farmers Alliance at their First House." Text in center below porch reads: "John Webber." |
