Fairchild at Gettysburg Monument
Governor Lucius Fairchild of Wisconsin and an unidentified group visiting the still uncompleted national monument at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1869. Fairchild is just to the right of the monument, wearing a top hat. As the colonel of the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry, Fairchild was injured at the battle and his left arm was amputated. Also in the photograph is a portion of the National Soldiers' Cemetery and a group of soldiers in Zouave uniforms. |
