Ruins of the USS Cassin and USS Downes
The remains of the USS Cassin and the USS Downes floating in front of the USS Pennsylvania in dock at Pearl Harbor. On the left is the destroyer USS Downes that was ravaged by torpedoes, bombs, and the explosion of its own munitions. On the right is the destroyer USS Cassin that was severely damaged by bombs and torpedoes which caused it to roll off of its blocks into the USS Downes while capsizing. Behind the two is the battleship USS Pennsylvania which was only lightly damaged. |
