Jacobs I Residence

Architectural sketches and floor plans for the Herbert A. Jacobs residence, known as Jacobs I, at 441 Toepfer Avenue. This was the first of 25 Usonian houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, with an affordable design (intended to cost about $5000), which the architect dubbed "the house America needs." The Jacobs residence was also reportedly the first in the country to employ a radiant heating system embedded in the floor. These sketches and plans were published in the January, 1938, issue of Architectural Forum (vol. 68, no. 1, pp. 80-81). |
