The marriage of bachelor President Grover Cleveland to Frances Folsom, his 21-year old ward, in 1886 captured the nation's romantic imagination, a sentiment conveyed by this trade card issued by the Merrick Thread Co., "The Thread That Binds The Union." The Cleveland's marriage was the only wedding of an incumbent president to take place in the White House.  This card was part of a collection of chromolithographs collected by Claus Holst of Mischicot, Wisconsin.
